Best recognized for her role as the Director of Strategic Projects and Public Affairs at Airbnb, Cassidy Blackwell is a true inspiration to many women who not only dream of entering the tech industry, but hold a leadership role in it. I connected with Cassidy through the ever so popular social media platform, Instagram and asked her 5 intriguing questions for the modern millennial woman today. Below are her responses:

1. Q: What do you love the most about working at Airbnb?

I love that it's a massive global company that has retained it's roots as a start up, which means the work happens quickly, creatively and collaboratively.  I also love that it's a company that truly cares not only about it's employees, but also its community of hosts and guests and will speak up on their behalf if something happens that's counter to the company's mission + values.

2. Q: What would you do if you were me right now? (A fresh grad, who is looking to create a positive impact in her community, and wants to jumpstart her career in the tech industry)

Try a lot of different types of thing and do what you WANT to do, not what you think you SHOULD do. Follow what inspires you and what you believe will have an impact on your community.  When you can do this, you'll be able to bring your whole authentic self to your work and be not only more effective, but also personally fulfilled.

3. Q: As a women of color and female leader, what has been the most significant barrier in your career?

This is a hard question for me and I feel as though I've been incredibly lucky to have been able to work for companies and managers who have 100% had my back, mentored me and allowed me to cultivate my talents and grow and have shown that I'm a valued employee. I also am aware that I work at incredibly progressive places so that has a lot to do with being respected and having a seat at a lot of tables.

4. Q: What is your favorite skin care product?

Best question yet! :) Kidding, but I'm passionate about taking care of my skin.  I keep my regimen simple, but my daily essential is Andalou Naturals SFP30 Serum.  It's SO important to protect your skin and this is lightweight enough to layer beneath a moisturizer and doesn't leave a white cast on melanized skin---which is  key!!!!

5. Q: What do you read?

I love fiction, with strong story telling and character development. Little Fires Everywhere, Homegoing and Lincoln in the Bardo have been three recent faves!
